Our Auntie Joan

Dearest Auntie Joan

I have so many years of visits and memories of you. It's quite difficult to chose just a few.

From our dance together in Nottingham to visiting you at home in Liverpool we had a connection that lasted over 30 years.

You were funny, stubborn, loving and a font of information and we would talk for hours on your settee discussing everything past and present. You were not very good with any type of technology and I lost count of the times I would re input contact details into your Phones. What made me laugh about doing this is that you still kept all those numbers on Card, Paper and in diaries all around your cabinet next to your settee.

Any venture out would always involve dressing for the occasion with matching outfit, beads, Wig and posy glasses, not forgetting the splash of Opium Perfume.

Driving you down to Huyton village was always an experience and you knew exactly where to park even though half the time it was not legal to do so. Your popularity always made me smile you seemed to know everyone who worked in your favourite shops. It always took longer than anticipated due to the many stops along the way to chat and converse with all and sundry. You always looked for the bargain and would even try and get a deal on your favourite ice-cream. You could Barter with the best of them!

Eating at yours was always enjoyable from Toast in a morning to Siu mai butties for a snack, duck and a lot of tasty chinese meals and of course always ending in me doing the dishes as you really hated washing up. I liked the duck so much that when I returned to Nottingham I was so surprised to receive one IN THE POST in a jiffy bag. I called you to say thank you and you just laughed!!

Each time I visited, you would proudly display another gadget you had purchased for the garden or house, often ending up in you returning it as it really wasn't needed, this included the 3 steamers under the stairs which you were trying to see which one was best!!

I remember when you visited us in Bunny Nottingham and completely shocked me when you stroked our Cat and said he was lovely. (You didn't like cats as you were frightened of them.) I said I would get you a cat for company in Liverpool and you replied that you didn't think he was that lovely.

Your quick remarks and Jokes always made me laugh. Laughing with you was a great experience and sometimes we really would cry with laughter. I really hope other people saw this side of you, remembering when I pulled your wig off and tried to take your photo, you were so quick to get the cushion up in front of your face. I then popped it on my head not realising it was back to front and you called me all the silly cows under the sun!

Auntie Joan you really are unforgettable, I will treasure my memories of you and will now miss my visits to Huyton or as you would say "Huyton With Roby"

I hope that you are now at rest and reunited with your lovely Ken and Mam.

Your Loving Niece

Karen xxxxx
